About the Bitcoin logo
The Bitcoin logo is an orange circle holding a white, slightly tilted ₿, the letter B with two vertical strokes through it. In the horizontal version from bitcoin.org it sits next to a gray "bitcoin" wordmark set in lowercase. The tilt matters: it gives the mark a feeling of movement, and redrawing the glyph upright is one of the most common mistakes in copied versions.
History
Bitcoin launched in 2009 with no brand team. The orange ₿ mark that is now standard came out of the early community rather than from a company, and it was released for anyone to use. Because no single company controls Bitcoin, the same symbol is used by wallets, exchanges, merchants and media all over the world. That openness is why consistency in color and proportion depends on the people using it.

Correct usage
Do
- Keep the ₿ tilted exactly as in the source file
- Use the orange #F7931A on light backgrounds for the best recognition
- Use the symbol alone for small sizes such as favicons and app chips
Don't
- Don't recolor the circle to imply a different coin or token
- Don't stretch the wordmark or change its lowercase type
- Don't use it in a way that suggests an official Bitcoin company, since none exists
Which file should you use?
Use the SVG for websites, presentations and print. It scales to any size without blur and stays small. Use the PNG where SVG isn't accepted, such as some CMS uploads, email templates and social posts: 256 px for icons and lists, 512 px for cards, 1024 px for large displays and retina screens.
